You have 5 seconds to impress me.

There should be a purpose to this
Unfortunately, I do not have a cable connection to the Internet. I do not have a high speed connection of any sort, relying on a 56kb modem and a dial-up service that typically (claims to) runs at around 44kb. That makes me a more or less average home user of the Internet. And the thing I have least to waste is time. How much time is too much? For me, waiting longer than 10 seconds is a long time if I'm making a casual visit to your site. At my connection speed, that means that all of the content of your first page should be less than 55 kilobytes. Think about that for ten seconds ... and then think about your own pages. So, this site is here to share tips and tricks that will speed up the performance of your web site - and make it a more enjoyable experience for your site's visitors. At worst, it will keep your visitors from leaving as soon as they might otherwise leave. None of the tips and 'tricks' described on this site are magic - they are common sense approaches that are easy to implement. And worst of all, they are all personal opinions; it is, after all, my site. There a several hundred million web pages out there. Just a few clicks away from your web site. Spend a few moments here to improve the chances people will stay when they visit your site.
