about halfadot giving something back ...

What you are about to see uses 'simple' javascript. The code on this page is fully cross-browser compliant (versions 4 and beyond). To see how it works, study the source code - later.

Pop ups are OK, but ...
Suppose you have a fairly extensive page for the pop-up, and it contains information about a number of things. For example, a help file or a glossary - and you don't want people to have to scroll through the page to find the information.

Question
Just how can you open a pop-up window and go straight to any particular place in that page?

Answer
With html, you can use anchors to jump to any named place in a page. The pop-up glossary uses one basic script and make your A HREF links pass the anchor name to that script. Then, when the pop-up opens, it will jump straight to that anchor in the pop-up page.

Suppose that you wanted to know all about A?

Or, maybe you would prefer to know about all about D or even all about G?? Just click those links.

How does it all work? You can look at the source code and help yourself. There are enough comments in the source code to make it simple for you to adapt this code for your own pages.
