6:30 pm rush hour traffic on Port Union Road

... seems a reasonable question ...

Since 'input' is not the same thing as a request for action or information, it seemed appropriate to request some action or information. Following is the e-mail sent to the City of Toronto 'works consultation' address on May 24, 2002:

Re: Port Union Road Class Environmental Assessment Study

Yesterday I received a Notice of Open House and Public Meeting concerning the Port Union Class Environmental Assessment Study. I note that public comments received will be used to finalise the evaluation and confirm the preferred design.

At what stage of the process is a cost/benefit analysis completed and made public so that the business case for this multi-million dollar expenditure can be reviewed by the taxpayers who will be called upon to pay for this project?

Since the traffic studies done in 1986 and 1990 are being used as a basis for either initiating this process or perpetuating it, and area housing development is significantly lower than was planned 16 and 12 years ago, it is likely that the traffic projections on which the decision to 'solve the problem' was based are incorrect. At what stage in the present process are further traffic studies planned to verify that a problem can be proven to exist today?
